Both Clinton and Obama came dressed for unity: "her pantsuit and his tie both shades of light blue"

Yesterday, in tiny Unity, New Hampshire, Senator Obama demonstrated his firm grasp on the issues that have led millions of Clinton supporters to Just Say No Deal to an Obama presidency.

By shrewdly coordinating his tie color with the color of the pantsuit of his beaten rival, Senator Hillary Clinton (D - NY), the charismatic junior senator from Chicago, was able to magically earn forgiveness for an extended campaign of virulent sexism, racism and telling dozens of unadulterated lies about Mrs Clinton that were hysterically reported in "swift boat" blogs such as ABC News, "racist" blogs such as Fox News; and "all false" blogs such as Obama WTF.

Doubtless, historians will look back on Obama's choice of tie color as a moment of great statesmanship clearly on a par with President Kennedy's choice of Berlin to announce that on that particular day he was a Berliner. Let there be no doubt, whatever you read in the racist, swift-boating, all-false media, on June 27, 2008 the junior senator from Illinois was indeed a successful uniter in Unity.

"I don't feel united. I still support Hillary," said Malka Yaacobi, a musician from Cambridge, Mass. "It's hard to know what Obama stands for.

"Despite the praise and smiles between the two, some in the crowd still sensed a space between them. Their embraces were slightly awkward, and Mrs. Clinton stood with her hands clasped formally in front of her as Mr. Obama spoke.

'Any Democrat will do'

And her supporters often noted that accepting Mr. Obama is a still-evolving process.

"I'm just afraid he'll be like Jimmy Carter," said Kay Gould, an East Burke, Vt., nurse, recalling the one-term Democratic president who lost his re-election bid in 1980 (and who recently coordinated his suit with his long-time friend Fidel Castro of Cuba,) "I'm for Obama by default, because any Democrat will do."

Friday's joint appearance capped a turbulent Democratic primary season and tense post-race transition as the two went from foes to friends – at least publicly. This was the most visible event in a series of gestures the two senators have made over the past week to heal the hard feelings – between themselves as well as among their backers.

During the nomination fight, the pair exchanged some nasty words at debates, in pointed campaign ads and during separate appearances – but nothing so harsh as to hinder any reconciliation.

Their groundbreaking candidacies and close finish in the primary season have sparked hopes among some Democrats that the two could run together. Champions of a "dream" ticket claim that Mrs. Clinton could help offset Mr. Obama's shortcomings with white women and blue-collar male voters.

But Mrs. Clinton is considered unlikely to win the second spot, in part because of rocky relations between her husband and Mr. Obama.

Aides to Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Obama said the two are further along in mending fences than someof their supporters, especially Mrs. Clinton's. An Associated Press-Yahoo News poll published Thursday showed Mr. Obama has slightly more than half of the New York senator's former supporters, but nearly a quarter of her backers say they will support Mr. McCain.

On Friday, both Democrats came dressed for unity, her pantsuit and his tie both shades of light blue.

A spokesman for Team Obama, known only by the name David A, speaking off the record, was quick to point out that yesterday was not the first time the junior Senator from Chicago has demonstrated he knows how to select the perfect tie, a skill-set which most fittingly has earned him a reputation as a "fabulous uniter."

In fact, David A noted that Senator Obama was the only candidate for President that has consistently shown good judgment in his choice of ties. And to make his case, the anonymous aide drew attention to a photo-op Obama had granted Superman, as long ago as 2007, in which the former Harvard man specifically coordinated his tie-color with Superman's pants. Point well made, David.

To clinch the argument, David A also let it slip, again strictly off the record, that Obama currently has "three teams of women, obviously former Clinton supporters, doing what they do best and working on acquiring ties appropriate for his already scheduled February 09 meetings with other world statesmen such as Castro, AhMADinejad and Kim Jong-il." In fact, in the case of North Korean leader, Senator Obama has already had Michelle checking out the merchandise at Target, where the couple love to shop whenever there are cameras around. But significantly, David A also informed me off the record, that "out of an abundance of caution and patriotism, as a back up for the sure-to-be high profile visit by the North Korean leader, Michelle has also placed an order for a grey tie from her normal suppliers in Paris, France." Such wisdom in one so young as Michelle is rare. What a perfect First Lady this Princeton and Harvard educated, Target shopper will make.

Sadly, I doubt we'll see this part of the story in the mainstream "wingnut" media which shows considerable bias against Senator Obama, the first African-American to earn a place at the top of the ticket. Seems the racist mainstream media is going out of its way at every opportunity to make the post-racial Senator and his easy-going wife look phony, while lauding his opponent's integrity and wisdom. Shame on them.
