Demonstrable lie #38: Obama withholds that Pastor Wright led campaign for divestment from Israel

How can you tell when Obama is trying to deceive the American public ...he's using none words such as ..."er", "you know" and/or stammers his words. That pattern was most evident during the PA debate. The non-word/stammer indicates his brain is thinking what he should be saying.

Senator Obama: So he was one of the leaders in calling for divestment from South Africa and er some other issues like that


So what are the other issues like that? Seems at the last split second after his er Obama cant think of anything he should say so goes with the catch-all, and some other issues like that. Turns out Pastor was a most vociferous campaigner in UCC's attempt to encourage divestment form Israel.

Here for example is what Jeremiah Wright jr wrote in Trumpet

The Israelis have illegally occupied Palestinian territories for almost 40 years now. It took a divestment campaign to wake the business community up concerning the South Africa issue. Divestment has now hit the table again as a strategy to wake the business community up and to wake Americans up concerning the injustice and the racism under which the Palestinians have livedbecause of Zionism.

The Divestment issue will hit the floor during this month’s General Synod. Divesting dollars from businesses and banks that do business with Israel is the new strategy being proposed to wake the world up concerning the racism of Zionism. That Divestment issue won’t make the press either, however.

This also plays into why Senator Obama claims that in 2005 he tried to set up a quasi-blind investment trust so he could make sure that his broker didn't invest in anything "objectionable". Although Senator Obama did not mention Israel by name as being something "objectionable", I'm not aware of other categories of investment that Pastor Wright was campaigning against back in 2005. (The 2008 target is Walmart)

Several readers have emailed obamawtf@gmail.com to ask why the List of Demonstrable Lies is shorter than some other lists of lie showing up on the web. Three reasons:

1) I suspect primarily its because of the criteria Obama WTF uses to define a "demonstrable lie." Recognizing the subjectivity of what can be referred to as a lie, Obama WTF established and publicized its criteria for what it would consider a "demonstrable lie." This will likely result in a lower number of lies, but provide considerably more comfort as to the reliability of the list. See for example demonstrable lie #33 for an explanation of the criteria being openly followed. This lie #38, for example, is clearly covered under criteria c which addresses omissions intended to deceive.

This has not been included on the list as so far it does not meet the criteria for demonstrability
