On this video clip you hear Obama look into the TV camera and say with a remarkably straight face, "My church is actually not particularly controversial." (Coincidentally, this has almost the same number of syllables as, "I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky") Not only is that blatantly a misstatement in light of Pastor Wright's subsequent remarks, but also completely in contrast to what Obama wrote in 1994 in Dreams from My Father.
P 283 of the paperback edition from 2004,during their first meeting after Obama explains to Pastor Wright his political goals for the community , this is what Obama wrote:
"I'll try and help you if I can," (Wright) said, But you should know having us involved in your effort isn't necessarily a feather in your cap"Based on this exchange its clear Obama knew exactly what he getting into, had done his research and explicitly chose to join this highly controversial church.
"Why that?" (asked Obama)
Reverend Wright shrugged, "Some of my fellow clergy dont appreciate what we're about. They feel like we're too radical. Others think we ain't radical enough. Too emotional. Not emotional enough. Our emphasis on African history, on scholarship--"
"Some people say," I interrupted, "that the church is too upwardly mobile."
The Reverend's smile faded "That's a lot of bull." he said sharply.
From March 13, since ABC aired the following clips, until April 29, Obama tried to maintain the position that his church was not particularly prone to controversy and played the American people for fools telling them that ABC and subsequently Fox News had taken the clips out of context. Yet it now appears that since he first met Pastor Wright in 1986 he knew was getting involved with one of the most controversial preachers of his generation. That is a major lie and certainly one not becoming of a future President.
PS. FYI the paperback edition of Dream of My Father says, "Published in slightly different form in hard cover in 1995 by Time Books" A paperback version of the 1995 edition came out in 1996.
Maybe the slight differences are the equivalent of those missing 18 minutes of Nixon tapes? If anyone knows what the differences are between the 1995 edition of Dreams from my Father and the 2004 paperback version please leave me a message at obamawtf@gmail.com
